Yvonne Fary-Cook, 40, of Rixeyville, is in jail after police say she fired a shotgun at a person Thursday night, then discharged it at three adults and two juveniles in a nearby vehicle.
According to Sgt. Jim Fox of the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, no one was injured.
Cook faces felony charges of attempted first-degree murder (three counts) and attempted malicious shooting (two counts).
Fox said the car contained two men, a woman and children ages seven and 14.
At about 9:18 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to Fary-Cook’s house in the 9400 block of Settlebrook Lane. After interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence, the CCSO arrested Fary-Cook, who was at the scene.
Fox said that when the car pulled up, a man who lived with Fary-Cook got out and was fired upon; she then fired in the direction of the car.
No witnesses could be reached for comment, and Fox said it is unclear why the suspect shot her weapon.
Fary-Cook is being held with no bond until a court appearance Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
Fox said she will be tried in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for one count of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted malicious shooting. She will be tried in General District Court on two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
