A 65-year-old woman is accused of stabbing a man during an argument in a Culpeper home.

Christine Strother, of the 15000 block of Richmond Road, is charged with malicious wounding. She is free on bond.

According to Corey Byers, spokeswoman for the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the residence Sept. 5. A 39-year-old male told authorities that he and Strother were arguing and she was “getting in his face.” Byers said the victim responded by pushing Strother.

The incident escalated when, the victim told authorities, Strother picked up a knife and began swinging it at him. The man was treated at the scene for a puncture wound to his hand.

Byers said Strother told the deputy that she grabbed the knife to defend herself and did not intend to cut the victim.

Strother is due in General District Court Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
