Woman pleads not guilty to hiding boyfriend’s body

A woman accused of hiding her boyfriend’s body in a well in Louisa County pleaded not guilty to all charges Thursday.
Ulisa Mary Chavers, 60, pleaded not guilty to charges of concealing a body, identity theft, credit-card fraud and possession of a sawed-off rifle. A trial was set for Oct. 21.
On March 6, authorities found the body of Chavers’ boyfriend, Reginal Cody Bowles, in a well on his property in the Mineral area, where Chavers also lived.
Authorities started looking into Bowles’ disappearance late last year after a son in Florida reported that he hadn’t seen or heard from his father in three years.
Chavers told investigators Bowles had gone to Sturgis, S.D., and joined up with members of a motorcycle gang and a militia, according to court papers.
On April 10, authorities exhumed what they believe are the remains of Chavers’ second husband, Clent Chavers, from the backyard of an Amelia County house where the couple used to live. The skull was missing.
Officials believe Clent Chavers died and was buried in 1994.
Authorities say Chavers was cashing her husband’s Social Security checks from the time he was missing in 1994 until this year, and that she also had been cashing Bowles’ checks after he disappeared at least two years ago.
Authorities are awaiting determinations from the state medical examiner’s office on the cause of death in the two cases.
