Youth from six Virginia counties will gather in Culpeper this weekend for the 4-H’s Northern District Livestock Show.
The free event, held at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises off U.S. 29 south of town, will begin at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
Superintendents Karen Evans and Melissa Gough said they expect 55 sheep, 24 beef and eight dairy entries.
Evans, who helped to organize the first show here four years ago, said this weekend’s event offers a chance for kids to learn and show their animals close to home without the expense or pressure of going to the state fair.
“We also wanted to have kids from different counties meeting each other,” Evans said. “It’s a good, rewarding program. Parents have really enjoyed it, and we’ve had people come back every year.”
