CSE spotlights Eastern View’s top students
The Culpeper County Academic Boosters Club recently recognized high school seniors from Eastern View and Culpeper County for their academic achievements based on GPA percentages.
Eastern View students received their scholarship checks during a convocation ceremony held on Tuesday in the school’s auditorium.
CCHS seniors received their scholarships during Thursday’s convocation ceremony at 6:30 in the school’s auditorium.
Historically, the Star-Exponent has spotlighted the valedictorian, salutatorian and honor grads preceding graduation.
However, the Culpeper County Public School system decided last year to change the way it determines its top graduates. This year, the school division chose to announce the top five percent at each school.
The Star-Exponent will feature the top one percent (two students from each high school) starting today with Eastern View students and CCHS students will be featured in Saturday’s paper.
Shelly Rossi
Shelly, 18, has plans to study finance during her time at Christopher Newport University in Newport News.
She’ll use the $500 scholarship money she received from the Academic Boosters Club on Thursday toward her education.
After college, Shelly plans on working as an accountant.
She also received a math award from the math department for her academic achievements during the Academic Awards Banquet held on May 13 at Eastern View.
During high school, Rossi was treasurer for the SCA her senior year and served on the National Honor Society during her junior and senior year. She was voted treasurer of the NHS as a senior.
Rossi says she’ll miss hanging out with her friends.
“It’s kind of sad that we’re all going our separate ways,” she said.
At college, Shelly said she’s looking forward to meeting new people.
Justine Weaver
Justine, 18, received a $500 scholarship from the Academic Boosters Club on Thursday that she’ll use toward her education at the University of Virginia this fall.
The Eastern View graduate plans on studying history in hopes of becoming an archivist.
“I love history,” she said. “I had a really great history teacher in the ninth-grade. His name was Mr. Williams. He was really young and fun. I think it’s really interesting to look back into the past and see what people did and see the way that they thought. I also like writing about it.”
Justine is a member of the National Honor Society. She won an academic award from the chemistry department during last month’s Academic Awards Banquet at Eastern View.
Justine said she’ll miss her high school friends the most.
“I’m looking forward to learning new things and meeting new people and being in that environment where everyone is there to learn,” she said.
