Parents are always looking for bargains — especially when it comes to back-to-school shopping.
This weekend, you’re in luck.
The August Sales Tax Holiday takes place today, Saturday and Sunday at participating retail stores in Virginia.
Qualifying school supplies worth less than $20 and clothing less than $100 will be exempt from the state and local retail sales tax during this tax-free holiday.
Rita West, JCPenney department supervisor, said this weekend is the best time to save on back-to-school items.
“Especially with the way things are now, everyone is trying to save a little money,” West said of the current economic downturn. “We need all of the help we can get.”
She added that her store also has 70 percent off during a storewide clearance.
Tax holiday clothing items include: shirts, jeans, baby clothing, shoes, boots, and accessories — just to name a few. Computers don’t qualify as a school supply.
