Three of the seven Culpeper County School Board members and division superintendent attended the Virginia School Board Association’s annual convention in Williamsburg last week.

School Board Chairman George Dasher, board members Elizabeth Hutchins and Bob Houck and Superintendent Bobbi Johnson all shared what they learned during the two-day School Board retreat at Central Office on Friday.

About 1,000 people attended the event at the Williamsburg Lodge on Nov. 18-20.
This year’s conference featured educational topics and activities relevant to public governance and decision-making on behalf of students in the Commonwealth.

Jayson Ryan Dorsey, the opening session speaker, focused on bridging the four generations in the workplace environment.

Sonia Manzano, best known as “Maria” from Sesame Street closed the session with the title “Would Elmo Make a Good School Board member?”

Other program topics included conference sessions on boardsmanship/governance, legislative and legal updates, school finance, school operations, educational technology and more.

Board members who attended the conference fulfilled the requirement of the Standards of Quality in the Code of Virginia “to participate in in-service programs on personnel, curriculum, and current issues in education.”
