School Board retreat starts tonight

The Culpeper County School Board heads to its annual summer retreat at Graves’ Mountain Lodge in Syria this weekend.

The two-day public meeting begins tonight at 6. Chairman George Dasher will start with a retreat overview before dinner.

Around 7:15 p.m., Superintendent David Cox is expected to provide a vision update summary discussing communication, discipline, accreditation, preliminary standards of learning scores, safety and security.

According to the agenda, the board will proceed into closed session, if necessary, to discuss Cox’s evaluation and goals.

The superintendent’s evaluation is an annual procedure.

On Saturday, the board plans to discuss its annual budget process, communication with the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors, the superintendent’s budget presentation, revenue, public involvement and school-based budgets and costs.

And who is paying for this retreat? Is the School Board Office not good enough for these so called meetings?
