Applications for absentee voting available at registrar’s office

The Culpeper County Registrar’s Office has its absentee voting machine in place, and applications for mail-in absentee ballots are ready as well.
Absentee ballots were available in the state’s 134 localities on Friday, as required by Virginia law.
Registered Virginia voters can apply for an absentee ballot if they will be out of town on Election Day or are unable to vote in person.
Certain eligibility requirements must be met to vote absentee.
New legislation also qualifies police officers, firefighters, search-and-rescue personnel and emergency services personnel to vote by absentee ballot.
The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail or e-mail is Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.
The deadline to vote in person by absentee ballot in the registrar’s office is Oct. 31.
All absentee ballots, properly cast, will be counted on Election Day, Nov. 3.
Statewide, voters will select a governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general.
Locally, Culpeper County voters will select representatives for the West Fairfax and Cedar Mountain School Board districts, the Stevensburg Board of Supervisors district and state delegate for the 30th District.
The Star-Exponent will run profiles next month on all of the local candidates.
