A tipster can now receive a $200 reward for giving information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for destroying a patriotic display in Uno off South Blue Ridge Turnpike (Route 231) on the night before Halloween, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced last week.

A vandal or vandals broke two ground lights and a flagpole with an American flag and a U.S. Navy flag at property in the 2400 block of South Blue Ridge Turnpike (Route 231), Madison County Sheriff’s Investigator Greg Garrett reported. The flagpole was yanked out and the flags were dumped into the Rapidan River.

The vandalism is believed to have happened between 5 p.m. Oct. 30 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 31.

The reward is reportedly being provided by the person whose patriotic display was trashed. Authorities declined to release his or her name.

“This was not a crime of opportunity,” Garrett said. “Right now the investigation is (pursuing that the property owner) was targeted for some reason.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Madison County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 948-5161.
