Another nationally known figure has taken a stand on Wal-Mart’s plan to build a Supercenter near a Civil War battlefield in Virginia.

In a column in The American Spectator, actor and humorist Ben Stein questions the giant retailer’s decision to build a store within a cannonshot of the Wilderness Battlefield.

He suggests Wal-Mart officials look elsewhere to show the retailer “has a heart as well as a calculator.”

Actor Robert Duvall, filmmaker Ken Burns and a who’s who of historians have taken a stand against the store’s proposed location in Orange County.

Supervisors will hear the public’s view at a July 27 hearing.
