Gordonsville plans Cops and Kids Friends Day
Published: September 3, 2009
Town of Gordonsville Chief of Police Christopher J. Spare recently announced that the Gordonsville Police Department will proudly sponsor the eighth annual Cops & Kids Friend Day this year, on Sept. 19 at the Gordonsville Fire Company fairgrounds. The day’s events begin at noon and continue through 4 p.m.
“One of the police department’s goals is to foster good relationships with young people. This event is of great benefit in accomplishing this mission,“ Chief Spare said. “Our past events have been successful because of local youth participation and donations received from the community.“
This year’s Cops & Kids Friend Day focuses on ages up to 12. Everything is free at the event, and some of the activities include: a free raffle with grand prizes of bicycles, K-9 demonstrations, a barrel train, moon bounce or slide, dunking booth, and loads of food and fun. In addition, members of local police departments, fire companies, and rescue squads will be on hand with their vehicles and equipment.
Each year, the police department visits local and regional businesses to ask for help to make the event both fun and educational for kids in Gordonsville and the surrounding area. The event still needs help from the community in the form of a donation of money, services, or products.
“What you donate will only be used toward this event,“ Spare explained. Donations received by the police department after the Cops & Kids Friend Day will help with related expenses, or with future community efforts, he added.
To make a donation or volunteer, please call Officer Curtis Brandon or Chief Chris Spare at 832-2234.
