Great trip to Culpeper ends with parking ticket

» 7 Comments | Post a Comment

We spent Tuesday shopping and eating lunch in your lovely town. We arrived at 10 a.m. from Gainesville and Woodbridge for our annual summer “adventure.”

We purchased items at the hardware store, the Country Store, Pepperberries and the Purple Parrot. We carried two huge bags out of Knakal’s after our wonderful lunch at It’s About Thyme.

As we piled our purchases into the car, we saw a parking ticket on the windshield. I will pay my $6 ticket promptly. I would note that we tipped our waiter more than that for our lunch.

We found more to do in your town than the two hours you seemed to want me to stay. The next time we get together to spend a day, we will probably go to Warrenton or Leesburg.

Funny thing… If I speed and receive a speeding ticket. I don’t complain and I thank the officer rather than complain, because I knew what the law was and I made a conscience effort to ignore it for my own reason and valued the risk. I have never received a parking ticket because:
I read the signs.
I mark the time on my watch, cell phone or clock.

I have parked in Wareenton, Leesburgh, numerous cites and counties in Florida and driven frequently between Virginia and Florida without worry about tickets..used my cruise control and obeyed the laws. It’s pretty easy, take the risk and weigh the penalties and live it. Get a way from the balming everything from under the sun and look in the mirror. Thats where the problem is, just admit it.

Just be sure to continue to feed the meter in Warrenton or Leesburg….oh, wait, you could have done that here smile

I’m not sure what I did wrong, but my first sentence SHOULD have read:

On a side note:  Three years ago the Commonwealth of Virginia deducted $5 from the State tax refund check they sent me.

Sorry about that!

On a side note: Three years ago the the State tax refund check they sent me.

When I called to ask why the money was taken I was infomred that the $5 was the fine from an on-campus parking ticket I had been issued while a student at Virginia Tech…  in 1986.

I recommend you go ahead and pay that fine bacause if you do not, “they” WILL eventually find you!

You are MUCH more likely to get a ticket in Warrenton than in Culpeper.

I don’t know about Leesburg.

I have been ticketed for parking only once.  That occurred in Virginia Beach.  Instead of whining and bragging about how much tip I had left at a local restaurant, I paid the fine and went on with my life.  I suggest that you do the same.

Warrenton and Leesburg also have time-restricted parking. The time restriction is to allow others to use the same spot you used so that they also may enjoy the downtown businesses. There are longer term lots in town and maps of those free longe-term parking spots are readily available. Why is it someone else’s fault that you didn’t follow the law and obey the signs? It’s unfortunate you got the ticket but not some sort of evil plot.
