HOW I SEE IT: A promising future for our grad

Our granddaughter Katelyn Hall, EMT/firefighter, just graduated Colonial Beach High School on June 14.

Katelyn started her education here in Culpeper at Early Learning Center and kindergarden at Farmington Elementary. She started first grade at the new King George Elementary and then continued her education in Colonial Beach.

Katelyn graduated among the top in her class, with awards of excellence in English, science, social studies and theater. Her medals were given in theater/grammar, National Honor Society, business and computer science.

Katelyn is a state-certified EMT in Westmoreland County and a state-certified firefighter with the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department. She received the $1,000 scholarship from Peninsula Emergency
Medical Services and also the student of the year from PEMS.

Other scholarships include the $1,000 Otis and Mescal Burke; $1,000 Charles Catlett (CBVFD); two Colonial Beach educational funds at $500 each; the Westmoreland Ruritan Club for $500 and the James Law Memorial for $500.

Giving back to the community with the fire department and rescue squad duties, Katelyn also held two part-time jobs,  one as a secretary and the other as day care assistant.

She has signed up for 17 credits at Rappahannock Community College and will start classes at the end of August to further her knowledge of medical technology and medics. Her goal is to become a flight paramedic, and with her strong will and determination, Katelyn Hall will reach these goals. She will be living her dream!

As her grandparents, we are very, very proud of her and are proud to have been a part of her early education.
