HOW I SEE IT: Stand for truth on the abortion issue

On Tuesday, Dr. Laura Granruth wrote about the neglect she feels as a constituent of Republican attorney general candidate Ken Cuccinelli (“Cuccinelli would only continue his crusade”).
The tone and philosophy of the letter screams her real issue with Cuccinelli is abortion. Abortion is not solely a woman’s issue, but includes fathers, families and our country. Annually, more American lives are lost by abortion than all those combined who have died in American conflicts.
On the abortion issue, let’s face facts and stop standing behind our naiveté on medical terminology. Liberals hide behind the Latin word fetus to make our unborn sound less than human. The word simply means “young one” or “little one.”
We’ve all seen premature fetuses who have been born. They’re babies! When Connor Peterson’s little body washed up on the shores of California, there was no doubt he was a baby worthy of protection and justice.
Before sunset, the left voiced their opposition to seeking justice for Connor, because they didn’t want to admit the reality of life inside the womb. Liberalism devalues life, and it won’t stop with fetuses simply because they may be inconvenient. The disabled, sick and elderly are also inconvenient at times, as we all were when we needed the care of others.
The left hides their devastating agenda behind protecting the health of women. As a nurse and woman involved in women’s ministries, I can say that most women’s lives are clearly not better, healthier or happier following an abortion. Abortion hurts women.
Specifically, the procedure known as dilatation and extraction is done from the 20th week of gestation through the third trimester. If a mother’s life is truly in danger, couldn’t she have an emergency caesarean section and save the life of her child? Clearly, there are circumstances when people cannot parent and there are thousands who would love to adopt these babies. Could we not save both mom and baby?
As a nurse and as a mom who lost her own “fetus,” I can tell you that our baby who died at 12 weeks was perfectly formed … a tiny face, little body, 10 fingers and 10 toes. Our baby’s life was not in vain, because the loss of her has compelled me to speak up for those who have no voice — the innocent unborn and for wounded mothers-to-be.
It is disheartening that our country is more concerned about recycling plastic bags and newspapers, saving fish, pit bulls and, yes, even the flies that President Obama swats, and yet we have no heart to save our unborn. May God help us to stand up for what is right and to speak up for truth.
Please vote Tuesday.

Understood Poolboy. That’s why I decided to take the flak this time LOL
Toby, I definitely didn’t forget about any of those things, just didn’t want to be accused of straying off topic and throwing up a smokescreen to push my liberal agenda ![]()
You forgot the individual who is gay, the individual who wants to marry someone of the same sex, the individual who might not be Christian.
One could go on. It’s called, what, little big government?
Friendly reminder: conservatives want the government to stay completely out of individual rights. Unless, of course, the individual wants to have an abortion. The government really needs to do something to stop that.
Let’s face facts: This is just another writer who says if you don’t vote against abortion then you support abortion. She does not have the expertise to make any of the claims she makes about lives not being better, but since there will be no actual rebuttal in the paper she gets away with it. The claims about adopting these babies are also hollow. Everyone wants healthy babies. It is easier to get them from foreign countries. Where does that leave all of those babies that these “thousands of people” are going elsewhere to get?
Yeah, some people DO have an agenda.
Neither Ken Cuccinelli, nor any other candidate in the VA elections, will have the authority to de-legalize abortion—when will you guys figure this out? Are you attracted to him for whatever his bigger platform is, or simply because he is against abortion, which is legal, and will stay legal.
It’s time to look at bigger issues that are in front of this state, and country.
After recycling my cans and newspapers on tuesday, I will indeed vote. Thanks for the reminder.
