HOW I SEE IT: Libs showing hypocrisy regarding protests

» 17 Comments | Post a Comment

I find it interesting how Gordon Meriwether viewed intimidation in his column Aug. 20 (“Intimidation taking the place of civil discourse in health care debate”).

Yes, the town hall meetings have had some yelling and screaming and tempers have flared at times. But let’s look at the facts. Ordinary citizens (housewives, military persons, retirees) have been showing up to ask questions and haven’t gotten answers. So what are they supposed to do?

I spoke with an elderly gentleman recently who attended one of the town hall meetings. He said everything started off fine (and civil), with the congressman joking with a couple of people in the front row.

But after only a couple of questions from the audience, it was clear that the congressman didn’t know what the bill had in it.

After uttering “I’ll have to check into that” or “I’ll get back to you” several times, people started getting upset. So when a voice is raised because someone has taken time off from work to go to the meeting and get answers, all of a sudden it’s a mob. Again, I ask, what are we supposed to do?

I think you on the left are simply upset that the American people dare to question anything liberals do. For years, you have had violent mobs protesting everything imaginable all over the globe, and when we on the right make a little noise you don’t like it.

I saw a tape the other day of Nancy Pelosi praising demonstrators who had interrupted a speech by President Bush a few years ago. But a couple of weeks ago, she denounced people at a town hall for being disruptive and called their actions un-American.

I’ve seen countless videos and read about so many conservatives who can’t give speeches at colleges because of shoutdowns from the students who disagree with them. And these speakers are invited; they don’t just show up and ask to speak.

But you don’t ever hear the mainstream media report on such things.

I’ll bet money if Obama was heckled and shouted down, the media would immediately call the hecklers racists. What do you think? By the way, Obama’s televised meetings are staged and orderly (and civil), but he still doesn’t answer questions.

During one such meeting recently, a young man asked how the insurance companies could compete with a government option program since the government didn’t have to show a profit. Obama acknowledged it was a problem and said it would have to be addressed.

Now, if you haven’t already addressed it in 1,018 pages, do you really think it will ever be addressed? No, because his goal is for a complete government takeover eventually.

At a recent town hall in Chicago, there were several SEIU members arrested for attacking a young African-American conservative man, and there have been busloads of Acorn members sent to out-shout anyone they don’t agree with at several of these events around the country. Would you call that intimidation?

cthulhu in an earlier post wrote: “The
Repubublican Party is more than willing to out-and-out lie about the
implications of the bill”. The only way
he/she could know this to be the case is if they read all 1200+ pages. I’m betting this did not happen. Such vile
accusations are what has destroyed any
hope of bipartisanship in in government
at all levels. What a shame. BTW, my
sentiments are the same when Republicans make such statements.

Cthulhu, Really? Honest? “the fact that the insurance companies are mobilizing their employees to pose as ordinary “concerned citizens,“ feeding the pack of lies. Or the fact that anti-reform protestors have been making numerous death threats and have been showing up to these meetings armed for combat.“?? “Death Threats” “Armed for combat”? When? Where? For decades, the left has sought to get it’s way by rioting, burning, looting, smashing, committing violence and threatening violence. Now, the left is outraged that anyone dare talk back to them. A couple of days ago, Pete Stark ( liberal democrat congressmonkey from California ) at a townhall meeting made the incredible statement that “the bigger the deficit, the stronger the economy”. ( Amazing, isn’t it? When democrats are in power, deficits are GOOD. When republicans are in power, deficits are BAD ) The questioner then asked for him to clarify that. Asked him if a trillion dollar deficit makes the economy strong, then a 2 trillion dollar deficit makes it stronger, so why not run up a 3 trillion dollar deficit? The questioner asked him if that’s what he really meant to say. Then Stark ripped off his mic, moved in front of the podium and yelled “Get the F out or I will throw you through the F ing window” Liberal democrat idea of free speech.

el~ your comments are what is to be expected. I truly could care less. Alinski has worn its self out. We will be going to DC on 9/12. What you think has no bearing. Oh well I am a hypocrite because YOU say so. Sorry ‘bout my bad luck.

Yes, let’s look at the facts. Like the fact that the Republican party is more than happy to out-and-out lie about the implications of the bill. “Death panels,“ anyone? Or the fact that the insurance companies are mobilizing their employees to pose as ordinary “concerned citizens,“ feeding the pack of lies. Or the fact that anti-reform protestors have been making numerous death threats and have been showing up to these meetings armed for combat.

As for your question of how can private insurance companies compete: they could start by actually providing the services they hypothetically offer, rather than writing contracts which allow them to refuse to pay out on claims once people actually need their insurance. Perhaps they could trim their egregious profit margin, while they’re at it.

eyesis, none of the sources you quoted bothered to mention witnes statements.  As soon as I saw it, on Fox BTW, I went looking for local TV stations cuz they usually do a better job than all the claptrap sources you mention.  So yeah, you’re lazy and and since you obviously support the author you’re being hypocritical.  Call it a personal attack if it makes you feel better.  Do we need to call the waaaaambulance?

BTW - You don’t get to post a “question” that doesn’t pertain to the subject until you respond to getting called out for being a hypocrite (a subject in the author’s letter).  Don’t try to changes the subject to your conspiracy theory whacko ramblings until then.

Thank you for the so sweet term of laziness and hypocrite. Isn’t that a personal attack? I certainly don’t see it a kumbaya.

google, yahoo, bing, and others including FOX. El ~ what makes your sources any more valid than mine? Holdren is on board as a “science” advisor. Does any one here remember his stances in the 70s? He was part of the reason I turned away from the Hippie stuff. Well when the medications are limited then yeah as the bill stands (the Dems proposal)the plug may not be pulled but the lack of medication may kill her. El ~ you did not address my questions. Much like our politicians.

How sophomoric of the CSE to use the word “lib” in a headline.  Don’t think I’ve ever seen any reputable newspaper ever do that.

I’m really surprised to see the writer endorse such bad behavior as has been exhibited in many town hall meets.  Maybe I’m naive but I thought that adults should try to be a model for kids who either are there or see this on TV.  Do you really think that shouting down a speaker is the way to debate the issues.  You can’t complain about getting answers if you’re shouting.  I’m really surprised to hear you say this is acceptable behavior.  How has this advanced your cause?

I think the “fears” being promoted by the liars promoting them should be called out.

There is not going to be a government take-over of this country as long as we can go to the polls and vote.  So stop thinking you have to get out your guns for the coming revolution, and get out your brain and search out the truth, and then vote.

No body is going to pull the plug on grandma, no body is going to force you into a government plan, all other health care decisions you make will be between you and your doctor.  We already have socialized medicine through our insurance industry and we know how they can bring a country to their economic knees, yet we can see how Medicare has worked for the poor and elderly.

You are not going to overturn Roe vs. Wade in this bill, or any other, no matter how much we don’t like abortion.  Your tax dollars are already being spent on abortion, so protest those bills that already allow it.  Don’t hold up health care for the living on this single issue.

Keep in mind the Health Insurance PAC’s are spending dollars 4 to 1 paying to republican politicians over democratic ones since late 2007 through 2008.  And we all know how greed and corruption tore down our economy.

eyesis, where did you get your facts if not from FOX?  You obviously didn’t check any of the local reporting and you certainly never followed up.  The interviews with witnesses seem to not support you at all.  The guy that got bit said he THOUGHT the guy was going to hit him, but seemed not to have felt that way when he was on the other side of the street getting in people’s faces.  He seemed to have only gotten brave when he felt he hd some support.

Now why are you suddenly tirading on health care and ACORN and all that other crap?  I called you out on your own hypocrisy and laziness?  I didn’t say the libs weren’t being hypocritical I said YOU ARE TOO!
