Bad idea to raise speed limit in Va.
Way to go, Virginia. Increase the speed limit to 70 mph. Statistically, that will mean more crashes, more lethal impacts and more people killed.
Reform can’t come fast enough
We are a family of six. We are middle class, employed and hard working. Our health insurance premiums went up again in January to the tune of 34 percent!

U.S. won’t bow to terrorists over ‘free speech’
In case we’re overlooking it, Lebanon’s officials (and almost all Arab media) are attacking the U.S. Congress’s new law that “scrambles” news broadcasts from terrorist networks.

Americans shouldn’t have to pick up Haiti’s medical bills
The American people are tired, tired and broke. They just cannot longer afford the forced charity that is being rammed down their throats; the latest scam is enormous medical bills from the care of Haitians brought to the U.S. for advanced medical care.

Name new police station ‘Ford-Jamison’
I think the new police station should be named after two of Culpeper’s finest officers: The Culpeper Ford-Jamison Police Department. After all, they are what law enforcement was all about.
Even the consolation prize didn’t work
I am a married man with a house in Culpeper. I have a decent job and am in a good positon to buy a car.

Acts of kindness helped this motorist on her way
I would like to thank two gentlemen who helped me Jan. 31 when my tire pressure needed checking and my tires needed filling.
Furor over Frank’s diary strikes me as a bit ironic
I find it astounding that a high school student is able to see with more clarity than the school division that is supposed to oversee her education.
Thanks to SWIFT, StellarOne, AGR playground on its way
The A.G. Richardson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization would like to thank two local businesses, SWIFT and StellarOne, for their recent donations to our playground fund.

In financial need? Please kick the cigarette habit.
The community should not be required to provide help to those who won’t attempt to help themselves and weather the storm.
I applaud Sen. Houck for his realistic talk on taxes
Thank goodness there is at least one politician with the common sense to recognize that in bad times you don’t cut taxes.

Eighth-graders can handle Frank’s uncensored diary
As a parent of an honors-english student at Floyd T. Binns Middle School who read the uncensored version of Anne Frank’s diary, I have to show my support to the brave teacher who dared to teach her students the truth!
Which of these two things should surprise me more?
Regarding Culpeper County Public Schools’ recent action on “The Diary of Anne Frank,” should I be more surprised that one parent (who apparently skirted the rule for a written complaint to be reviewed by committee) can censor one of the important books of the 20th century, or the fact that Culpeper school administrators folded so easily?
Glad to see book is back on the shelves
As a former high school English teacher, committed Christian and international Bible teacher who has lived among the Jewish people for 20 years, I was stunned, dismayed and outraged to learn of the uncensored version of “The Diary of Anne Frank” being removed, albeit temporarily, from the shelves in Culpeper County Public Schools.

All this over one complaint?
I am a parent in California, and I cannot believe that the school district pulls a book because “a parent,” one parent., complained.

School division made a big mistake on Anne Frank’s diary
I cannot even begin to describe my regret and anger over Culpeper County’s decision to pull the unedited version of “The Diary Of Anne Frank” from its reading list.

My daughter can relate to letter writer
I am responding to Tuesday’s letter to the editor titled “How will seniors survive?”
I hope Houck has guts to stand up for Va.
On Jan. 18, two buses left from Culpeper to Richmond. The purpose was to let our state legislators understand the need for them to adhere to the Constitution as well.

Heritage will be destroyed in pursuit of almighty dollar
Walmart’s plan to build adjacent to the Wilderness battlefield is a disgrace. In that area of numerous battlefields, there is already land that is gone.
Saddened over Walmart’s plans to build in Wilderness
Thank you for publishing the excellent editorial by Nicholas Hollis decrying Walmart’s intention of building a supercenter across from the Wilderness battlefield
Once again, Massachusetts helps save the union
Today, Massachusetts may be the very state that restores our state of the union back to normalcy and sanity.

County trying to swindle town over water and sewer
I remember years ago when the county first talked about wanting some of the town water and sewer connections. I thought, the county wants something for nothing.
