Thoughtful folks make Culpeper a very special place

Culpeper is a great place to live. In my rush to get a package mailed at the post office, I must have pulled my purse out of the car and it tumbled under my car. I didn’t miss it until I parked at Wal-Mart and I then retraced my steps, but of course the purse was nowhere to be found.

Sergeant rings bell to remember Iraq war deaths

I’ve attended the Memorial Day events for more than three years at the National Cemetery. At the event, I always see an Army sergeant ringing a bell. Nobody knows why he is doing it.

Memorial Day should not be filled with sirens

Somehow, I think holidays are not good for America. It should not sound as if there is a riot in progress.

We can’t ignore illegal immigration

Reading Mr. Diaz Lopez’s column in the May 18 Culpeper News (“Culpeper community needs to come together, stop alienating each other”) makes me even more determined to ask the American people to please write your congressmen and ask them to do more about the illegal alien problem.

Community yard sale will benefit sports complex

Over the past four years, the Culpeper County Parks and Recreation staff has volunteered its time to organize and run a community yard sale for the whole community. The event was held May 17 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Floyd T. Binns Middle School’s lower parking lot.

Recently I read of the death of Herb Hash, who was one of the best athletes ever to come from Culpeper County. The only one to surpass him was the Hall of Fame pitcher Eppa Rixey.

Thank you from Culpeper Food Closet director

A big thanks to the USPS carriers of the Culpeper Post Office! They had a very successful food drive on May 10, collecting 3,000 pounds of food for the Culpeper Food Closet.

Illegal? It is against the law.

I’m sure the majority of American taxpayers would not be appreciative of the brazen remark “you might not like it, but it is the truth and it is the law,” ending a recent letter in the Star-Exponent (287 (g) not cost effective for town, April 29).
