People need to put aside the petty happenings and focus on getting the real scum off the streets.

Mike Bonfadini makes some excellent points in his April 8 letter on the school calendar (“Is the School Board really listening?”). 

In the overall scheme of things, this is a minor item, but you put it smack-dab in the middle of the front page, so I cannot conquer the urge to mention it.

I’ve read with interest the recent stories highlighting the efforts of Congressmen Eric Cantor, Thelma Drake and Rob Wittman to help curb the nation’s illegal immigration problem.

This ordeal has been made even more unbearable by the fact that we have had such difficulty finding a church at which to hold her funeral.

Several suggestions from Town Council candidates concerning the illegal immigration/day worker issue have sparked my interest. 

What is it going to take for some of the folks who drive in and through the town of Culpeper to learn that you are supposed to yield the right of way to pedestrians who are attempting to cross the street at a crosswalk?

My parents taught me to respect other people and their property, and in order to do this you must give respect to get respect.

Anyone who came in contact with Mr. George Beard, Mrs. Lorraine Beard or any member of that family knew then and knows now that they were really good people. 

I’m not opposed to tax cuts.  As a matter of fact, I think we need more of them.

I attended the recent School Board meeting regarding adoption of the PWCS calendar. I was glad to see the amount of support from the parents in attendance and by the number of signatures, over 860, on the petition that was submitted.

Responding to Town Council candidate Platts’ recent letter “Ryan should reconsider his bigotry remarks,” in the April 4 Star-Exponent, nowhere did Mr. Ryan call any of his opponents a racist or a bigot, or even imply it, as Platts asserted.
