Angler proposal means bad news for local family farms

Having had the honor of attending the small community meetings organized by Geraldine Schneider, we wish to thank her for her service to the community and we applaud her letter in May 20 (“Say no to Angler’s water and sewer plan”) opposing the Angler proposal for building water and sewer facilities. This $100 million project comes to us from the same people who are now having a bankruptcy auction of the Copper Ridge properties. Remember that offer of land for the police station? Where did that go ?
We live in the Cedar Mountain District but are concerned about this deal because it will affect us all. We all need to speak up, voice our concerns and ask questions.
Nowhere is this needed more than in the Stevensburg District, where Angler would carve a path right through the heart of this beautiful part of the county.
It became obvious at our meetings that BOS Chairman Bill Chase’s actions on this proposal will be the swing vote. He will decide what happens. Residents in the Stevensburg district need to call Mr. Chase, let him know that you care about maintaining the rural atmosphere that we all cherish in Culpeper. That atmosphere will be destroyed by Angler. Our family farms will be lost — where water and sewer go, so goes development. Call Mr. Chase, tell him you don’t want this. Let your supervisor know how you feel. Persuade him to vote against Angler. He represents you, let him hear from you — he will listen.

whatever your opinion is, please voice it and get in touch with your representative. we live in a democracy and it is our unaniable right to voice our feelings. Cecilia Schneider
Your representative, Larry Aylor, likes the Angler idea. Chase votes for anything that gobbles up farm land even though he presents himself as champion of the farmer. Chase voted for Three Flags (1,000 homes), Longlea (1,000 homes) and Centex (776 homes)—all on farmland. Chase is not the swing vote, he Aylor and the town’s two BOS members favor Angler eeal. Why anyone would want to add 4,000 to 8,000 more homes in Culpeper makes little sense. And where are these people going to work? Gas is almost $4 a gallon. Think these folks will drive to Northern Va.? I doubt many companies will be spending big bucks building new facilities for these workers since the economy is shrinking. This Angler thing is all about ego.
