And they’re off, folks. The race is on to see who crosses the finish line first, with the $4 gallon gasoline price in the town of Culpeper and local surroundings.
With a strong four-way lead are Inlet Exxon, Texaco, Fant’s Amoco and Green’s Amoco all at $3.79. Coming in at a strong second and a three-way tie are three 7-Elevens on the north side of town at $3.75. Up against the rail and looking for an opening is C & C Shell at $3.73. Fading back but surely to recover is Southern States at $3.71.
The two dark horses, but don’t count them out, are 7-Eleven on Bus. 29 south and Shell on U.S. 29 south at $3.69.
Prices subject to change, since start of race. Finish line looms ahead at July 4 weekend.

Kudos to all the participants!
I’ll put my $$ on Exxon/Mobil, a company that shined brightly by leading the pack into gouging us all after Hurricane Katrina!
It’ll be just another $12 billion windfall quarter for them, but who cares? As long as they lead the pack and win the race to $4 they are the champs in my book.
Maybe a hurricane will “threaten” a refinery this summer and ExxMo can jack us for $5? We can only dream!
Cute idea…too bad Fant’s and Green’s are not Amoco. You must not have paid attention to the sign to get the prices. They are BP Stations. And prices are much higher than you report.
This must have been written quite a while ago. Where can I get $3.69 gas? I think we’ll see $4 gas in early June. Then we can start a new race for $5 gas.
