Board should use PWCS calendar
Published: April 9, 2008
I attended the recent School Board meeting regarding adoption of the PWCS calendar. I was glad to see the amount of support from the parents in attendance and by the number of signatures, over 860, on the petition that was submitted.
The detailed information submitted by Mr. Mike Bonfadini as to the amount of instructional hours, number of days attended and number of bad weather days included in PWCS vs. Culpeper was well prepared and indisputable. But our board found a way to dispute it.
As was noted by their attitudes at the meeting, and now by the submission of their own calendars disregarding the well-working PWCS calendar, they are more miffed at the idea that another county can do a better job.
The board works for us, the parents and children of Culpeper. We definitely stated our case at the meeting, leaving no room for doubt. The board should adopt the Prince William County calendar, not some modified form of it.
During the next election, people, we really need to think about who fills these seats.
