CCEA committee suggests voting for these candidates

The Culpeper County Education Association’s Committee for Children and Public Education recommends support for the following local candidates for the School Board:

In the Jefferson District we recommend the candidacy of Incumbent Leanne Jenkins. She will bring eight years of experience back to the board and has shown a willingness to work in the community as an advocate for children.

In the Stevensburg District we recommend George Dasher. He brings a wealth of experience and vision from the business world to the board. He has exhibited firm and steady leadership through the past two years as board chairman.

In the Cedar Run District we recommend incumbent Elizabeth Hutchins over challenger Richard Goff. Mrs. Hutchins has been arguably the strongest advocate for children and the CCPS while serving on the board during the past eight years. Her leadership and knowledge has served the schools well, and her re-election would permit her to continue this work.

For the remaining two-year term representing the West Fairfax District, we give the nod to Robert Houck over John Cerio. Although both candidates would serve the public well and both would bring business experience to the board, we believe that Mr. Houck’s familiarity with the Culpeper community would prove to be an asset as a board member.

The CCEA’s committee based its recommendations to the public and education community on each candidate’s response to our questionnaire and on responses to questions asked in the public forum at EVHS Oct. 13.

The CCEA appreciates the work and efforts of all candidates. We look forward to working with those individuals who will be elected Nov. 3 and wish all good luck.
