Check your Verizon bill for scam by Cheap2Dial

Be aware of your Verizon phone bill. I received mine Monday and it had a charge added of $16.76 for something called Cheap2Dial.

I never requested this service.  After doing some research, I found that this company has been in trouble with consumers since 2007 for adding its service to an existing phone number without the customer’s knowledge or consent.

Verizon immediately said it would remove the charge.

I also called Cheap2Dial, and it said I ordered this service May 11 using a yahoo.com e-mail address.  Its customer service rep also said the company would cancel the request. Then she asked for my correct Internet address, but my mama didn’t raise any dummies, so I refused to give it to her.

I think Verizon should be called to account on this subject. It either should block entirely any requests from Cheap2Dial to bill for them, or it should give the customer a courtesy call to make sure the customer requested this service.

We have all probably at one time or another had a problem with Verizon, but I think it should be called to account for this. In the meantime, check your bill.

P.S.: The base company for Cheap2Dial, USBI, has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.

This JUST happened to me, in CA on our ATT bill!

Is this even legal?

ATT seemed understanding, but lacked the outrage I expected them to have (I asked why they even ACCEPT third party billing from a company known on the internet for slamming!) - she had no answer for me.

Called cheap2dial/USBI and they tell me that while they’ve stopped “future service”, I have to get a form in the mail from them and file something to dispute the charges they already (immorally) charged me for!  Why should I have to do anything when they scammed ME?

It has been a few years since I used Verizon but they use to have an option for “No Third Party Billing” and “Pic lock”. The pic lock ensured your long distance service was not changed by anyone other than you and the Billing one was to ensure no one crammed your bill. Give em a call and see if they still offer those services.
