Consequences of a flawed world

Abortion is such a strong subject, hotly debated on both sides. Thankfully, I have never been in a position to where I have had to worry about making such a decision regarding my body or a life that I may be carrying.

I have known many women who unfortunately have, and have seen the consequences of both decisions. The ones who chose abortion, yes, it is something they have had to live with, but if you ask them would they make the same decision, even 20 years later — the answer is yes.

And although they missed having that child, other joys have filled their lives. The ones who went through with having their child, yes, they love that child with all their heart; but I have watched them struggle financially, emotionally and physically to raise that child — even with help from family and friends, because no one can support you 24/7 when you are single parent raising a child.

In a perfect world, every child would be adopted and no child would be abused for having come into a situation where it truly wasn’t wanted, but we do not live in a perfect world.

While I don’t believe abortion should be used as a form of birth control, I do believe that it is a woman’s choice. I have lost a child through miscarriage, and that was a decision that was made for me not by me, so, yes, I can understand the pain of loss. However, each woman’s situation is different and it should still remain a choice.

Jerry R. Beckett, I do not believe in god.  Therefore, I feel that woman and man are pretty much left making the call on this one.

If you don’t like abortion, don’t have one.

Thank-you for a thoughtful letter Ms. Drown. I was faced with this choice when I became pregnant with a child who had a severe heart defect. While I chose to carry him to term, my choice might have been different had I not had health insurance which would cover a transplant. Even with a supportive family, church, and community it was a difficult and painful experience, and no one should presume to make that choice for another.

So Beckett, the abortions that have already occurred are God’s will?

Let there be no doubt, no man, woman, or child was put on this earth to make the choice as to who lives and who dies.  It forever has been, is today, and will be forever, God’s choice who lives or dies.  No mere human can portray themselves as Gods to make that decision.  Jerry R. Beckett

Wrong!  We need to get the government into your personal business anytime you do something contrary to what I think you should be doing.
