Great strides being made by CCHS field hockey team
Published: October 4, 2009
The Culpeper field hockey team is a pretty good story this year.
After the opening of Eastern View High School last year, the field hockey players were divided up and Culpeper was left with only one varsity player from the previous squad (she was a sophomore last season). In addition, there were only four players on last year’s Devilettes varsity team who were on the previous season’s JV squad.
For the 2008 season, CCHS only had five players (one sophomore and four freshmen) who had ever played field hockey. For all other players on CCHS’s roster, last season was their first time playing this sport. Not to mention, CCHS was left in the Cedar Run District, which is AAA, playing against much bigger schools. Needless to say, the Devilettes got beat up pretty good.
This season the Devilettes’ record, as of Thursday, is 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the district. With the exception of two games (one was the first game of the season), the Devilettes have been very competitive, losing by three goals or less.
These young girls and their coaches are working their tails off.
