Health care legislation bad for America’s seniors

Older Americans, especially those living in rural areas, will take a big hit under the health care reform legislation making its way through Congress. One proposal calls for slashing Medicare by $500 billion to provide health care coverage for other population groups now uninsured.
This drastic measure virtually eliminates Medicare Advantage, a program approved by Congress in 2003 that has achieved success in giving seniors choice, variety and value in health care plans. This program places an emphasis on cost-saving preventive actions.
The Baucus health care overhaul and others drafted by Democrats with White House support will punish those on Medicare as well as members of the Baby Boomer generation now becoming eligible for benefits promised them by the government.
Contact Sens. James Webb and Mark Warner and Rep. Eric Cantor now to protest this cruel, unfair blow to older citizens.

The issue with medicare, as I understand it, comes down to overcharges and (gasp!) fraud which is bilking billions out of the fund. Reforms will tighten up on those things and hopefully preserve this very necessary program for our seniors.
geezer, not sure what you are looking for me to understand with the premiums?? Maybe you could describe more.
I have 3 elderly people here in my home. All of which pay their $96.40 a month, and I don’t wish for them to have to pay anymore. I am just saying that while we were all young and working, taking out a maximum of 3% from our paychecks was never enough to cover the future medical costs that no one could have anticipated would have risen so high in such a short period of time.
Ordinary woman;
You’ll need to be sure to paste the entire line below all the way through .asp to see the webpage :
http://www.ehealthlink.com/Senior /MedicareFunding.asp
which describes the purpose, costs, etc. of Medicare.
One can find links to “Medicare Supplemental insurance options” there, also.
Medicare is broke. The government did not borrow its funds, it’s simply broke. Without an overhaul and new reforms, the three seniors that live in our home and depend on it, will get less and less care when needed most.
So let the reforms and “public option” happen, so more tax money can be put into this program.
The waste needs to be eliminated. A 3% tax for medicare would have never supported the needs of those on the program, so Medicare was bound to fail in time. Let’s get it fixed, and stop all the belly-aching.
