Houck a well-rounded pick for School Board
Published: October 31, 2009
Bob Houck will receive my vote for the West Fairfax seat on the Culpeper County School Board. Selecting Bob to complete Jimmy Lee’s term was a wise choice by the School Board based on his record of accomplishments in our community and his skills.
I came to know Bob in the 1970s while I was an extension agent working with the Culpeper 4-H program. As a Culpeper 4-H alumni and 4-H all star, he could always be counted on to support the program. We recognized him with the county 4-H alumni award and later he received the Virginia 4-H alumni award.
Those leadership skills were a springboard in his adult life. A member of Ruritan National, Bob has likely held most leadership positions from the club, to the district, to the state and then nationally, finally serving as national president. The skills that one learns through such activities will serve him well as a Culpeper School Board member.
His lifetime of work in the financial field also brings skills to his board position. A lifetime of farming has taught him how to get the most out of every dollar! As a lifelong member of our community, whose wife is retired from elementary school teaching, Bob knows Culpeper past and present. He is no stranger to the challenges he will face.

For such a great leader, he sure doesn’t have many answers or even suggestions for the SB.
