Money for theater would be better spent elsewhere

In his letter Oct. 18, Mr. White is correct in requesting that the town monies to invest in the State Theatre be put up to a vote by the residents of Culpeper. After all, it is our money and it should be used wisely. I believe the money would be better used for an update of the skating rink and/or building a public pool for the children and residents of Culpeper as opposed to the State Theatre, which will only be used by a select few.

Sure it might be a great tourist attraction (and maybe not), but it will only be of benefit to a select few of those who have town businesses and those who could afford to attend. Why not do something more positive for the community and invest in something that will be of use to all the community of Culpeper, again, like updating the skating rink and/or a public pool.

Hopefully, the town fathers will think long and hard about investing that much money on something that could possibly be a lost cause, and instead make a more positive investment for our Culpeper citizenry.

Any money for the Theater, should be put to a vote! Anyone who wishes to go to a theater can vist the current one across the street, or the Libary of congress one on Rt3.

Another example of Funds being wasted rather than used to defer raising taxes.

Why would you say that the theater would only be used by a select few?
