No need for Star-Exponent to editorialize on CCHS coach

Too much thought is put into commentary these days. The Star-Exponent must surely know this after printing some of the controversial matters they do. In response to Monday’s “Our View” section subtitled “Monkeying Around,” I’d like to defend football coach Mike Williams as a student, athlete and friend.
The Star-Exponent can only hope that “Williams never clams up,” but obviously needs a story if they feel the need to publicly inform the coach of the effect of his comment(s). All of those who have met Mr. Williams fully comprehend the meaning behind his words and actions. Much discretion is quite evident.
However, the CSE was gracious in defending these comments by writing, “While critics might have a point that it wasn’t a nice thing to say, claims of racism are off base.”
Hypothetical reasoning is often used around the team to reach a common level of understanding. As varsity football’s manager, I’ve witnessed firsthand the equality offered to each player on and off the field. It is not the responsibility of the Star-Exponent to inform Coach Williams and the public to watch what he says.
Common sense is uncommon. If these agitated fans find these facts disdainful, they should realize Coach Williams is not going to say anything to disrupt the football program. His best interest in the team is best shown on the field, and that’s where the Star-Exponent needs to leave it.
