Support the public option
Published: November 5, 2009
My family supports a real, government-run, single-payer public option. No triggers, no cooperatives. Let’s finally get this thing done right!
There are too many tragic stories. The public option can stop this and save those people — moms, dads and babies.
Thank you for acting quickly and doing the honorable thing.

Wow Brewer, I’m glad I let you talk so much before responding, cause it really helps to know how you think.
First off, the federal government, is US, you and me, not some wild raging animal out on its own. So stop trying to turn it into some monster that it is not.
Second, you are required to have automobile insurance if you want to drive, so having health insurance if you want to go in a hospital, is not asking too much. Since you are already paying for the uninsured, and your costs will go up again at renewal time, I would think you’d want health care to not be a traded commodity on Wall Street.
Failing industries that are necessary for life to continue in a quality manner have always had intervention from the government. They are not meant to be a for-profit institution. Changes to how we send mail, has sent the Postal Service down in red, Amtrak was counting on having its trains full, and not 1/4 full because everybody drives cars now…so stop comparing our health care, (which will only go up and up), to that of a tangible object. If we can’t have a socialized system for all, then we need to get rid of social security, medicare, and veterans benefits NOW, as they are not paid for either, and they are social programs. (Sad, since 64 vets die every day in the U.S. without medical insurance and who do not qualify for V.A. benefits). I’m all for shutting down ALL social programs, if that is what people want, but I’m not for just a few getting care, I’m for everyone getting care.
Quite frankly, I only support a public option because I know it will lead to socialized medicine, which is what I truly think we should have. That is a compromise for me to just have an option. Then there will not be a competition factor. But I’m for competition if that’s the best we can do for now, as that will at least drive down insurance costs for all, and remove the $17 million dollar salaries and bonuses for people who are less educated then doctors, nurses, teachers and police officers.
No, you’re wrong about me when it comes to capitalism. I’m a Christian first and foremost, and I lay up my treasures in heaven, as this world is just a place to pass through. And along the way, to live a life that is pleasing to God, and in accordance with His Word.
The other 34 industries, can do what they want, as they don’t carry the burden of life or death. Once someone is dead, they can’t pursue life, liberty and the happiness.
Further -
If OW had gotten the right education, and the right breaks, or luck, whatever it takes, to be one of the insurance executives making million dollar bonus’s, would she have a different perspective? Of course not.
She would keep $40,000 for herself and donate the rest to charity.
If OW thinks the Superintendent makes too much money - ot the teachers make too little money - we should get the federal government to takeover the Culpeper County government? That would solve the problem wouldn’t it? Good talking point???
I notice OW didn’t mention the 34 other industries that make a higher percentage than the insurance industry.
Should we offer public options to compete with them, and force people to buy products in those sectors as a condition of citizenship? Or is it just Health Insurance because President Obama wants it, and oil in the future if President Obama wants it?
She is right tho. Nobody asked me or will ask me to pay for anything. I will be required to pay without them asking for it.
Alaska took the oil under their land and told the oil companies come on in, so long as you pay a share to Alaska. That is part of “States Rights”. Alaska doesn’t have gas stations or refineries either. So, a takeover is not exactly what Alaskans did. Now OW says, “if we need to nationalize oil companies, we’ll do so” That is down right scary!!!!!
Plain stupid huh? What product as of today, are you required to purchase as a condition of citizenship?
What industry has the federal government gone into before with the sole purpose of “competition” with the private sector?
Please tell me OW?
I also notice OW didn’t mention the profit margin at the Postal Service or Amtrak did she?
teachers in the county where I live don’t make $40,000. Try $26,000 to
35,000. I know because my grandson and his wife are both teachers in this county, one of them teaches civics, the other is a special ed teacher. How you like them apples????
Jeez brew, now you’ve gone and made another person think you’re stupid.
OW, don’t let brew kid you. He isn’t paying for anything. You need a job for that. He isn’t even allowed to vote.
AH, Brewer, the guy that gets ALL his news from Fox. Well you’re wrong, cause you need to look at other news outlets too.
The insurance companies make far more profit that 2-3%, because they get to write-off their bonuses and huge 17 million dollar salaries in the EXPENSE category. Which shows how intelligent you are on this issue.
First off, no one asked you to pay for anyone. The poor and the rich would both be required to pay. If it weren’t for all the loopholes that the rich skip through to get out of taxes, there would be no need for nationalized plan.
The Federal gov’t is charged with protecting ALL its citizens, not just the rich. And in protecting them, they are removing health care as a for-profit industry, which is the way it should have always been. So sad they have to “make people be good”. But that’s what happens in a demoralized society.
You have no points to address, cause they are both just plain stupid.
And if we need to nationalize oil companies, we’ll do so. That’s what Palin did in Alaska isn’t it? She told the oil companies that it was the citizens oil, and if they wanted it, they’d have to pay a portion of the profits to the citizens of Alaska.
So get off the Fox and Republican bank-wagon, they are going to go down in history just like they have for opposing all legislation for the poor and elderly since 1912.
Yea, profits do need to come down. Why should a school superintendent make $150,000 a year while a teacher makes $40,000, and then still has to buy supplies for their classroom? Why the disparity between the rich and the poor? History has taught us when you have this type of disparity, you have revolts.
This letter doesn’t deserve a response, but I’ll do it anyway. We’ll go right past the question of why should I pay for your health insurance to a couple other points.
With the single payer option, for the first time ever, as a condition of US citizenship I will be REQUIRED to buy a product. Not only that, but I will be required to buy it from the federal government. Sounds unconstitutional to me.
The second point is - since when is the federal governemnt authorized to enter into competition with private enterprise? Especialy with the intent to put them all out of business?
You people listen to your brand of news - ie Reid and Pelosi saying the insurance companies make more money than any other industry. It is intersting to note that percentage wise - insurance companies make only 2 % profit and rank 35th in industriies. That means there are 34 other industries we nationalize first? Let’s get their profits down too, more in line with what you and I make?
Why don’t we nationalize the oil companies that make in the billions every quarter? Maybe the government could turn them into the same profit category as the Post Office and Amtrak.
I couldn’t agree more! I get angry every time I see him on TV with the “tea-baggers”. And then again at the rally yesterday with all of those lunatics who were bussed into DC. to listen to that half-wit from Minnesota.
And let’s get Cantor out of office next year too. We need to get new people in that care about America, and are not into the one-world currency, banking, and Wall Street.
Call him at 202-225-2815 and tell him what you think.
