A summary of the CSE’s endorsements for election
Published: November 1, 2009
» The Star-Exponent editorial board endorses these candidates in Tuesday’s contested races ...
* School Board, Cedar Mountain District: We back incumbent Elizabeth Hutchins over Richard Goff for her leadership, expertise, hard work and commitment to quality education in Culpeper County.
* School Board, West Fairfax District: Bob Houck receives the nod here, as his three months serving in place of Jimmy Lee, coupled with deep roots in the community, gives him an edge over John Cerio.
* Board of Supervisors, Stevensburg District: In one of the year’s most intriguing and hotly contested races, seven-term supervisor Bill Chase (I) received our endorsement over upstart Republican Dewayne Payne and fellow political newcomer Gardiner Mulford (I). Chase’s feistiness and dedication to his district has us backing him for one more term.
* Virginia House of Delegates, District 30: Republican Ed Scott has served six years in the House of Delegates, and his gentle, down-home style has endeared him to many. Scott’s work in the House has grown to include several areas, and his broad knowledge makes him our choice over libertarian-leaning independent Matt Carson.
* Virginia attorney general: While the battle between Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Democrat Steve Shannon has gotten ugly, we decided to steer clear of all the mudslinging and ask the simple question, “Who would better serve our state?” By a slim margin, it was Cuccinelli.
* Lieutenant governor: Republican Bill Bolling has proved for the past four years he’s up to the job, and his ties with GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell make him best suited for the next four.
* Governor: If you have to raise taxes for one purpose, Democrat Creigh Deeds is right that transportation would be worth it. But Bob McDonnell has come up with a plan, on paper, that wouldn’t require such an approach. In addition, his overall platform is more solid and idea-driven. It’s time for a new day in Richmond, with McDonnell leading the way.

Thank you CSE for reminding me who NOT to vote for, appreciate it.
Does CSE honestly think their endorsement holds any sway with me after they endorsed Scott Jenkins for Sheriff?
We saw the two handmade Deeds signs at the McDonnell rally last Friday. “Somebody” needs a grammar lesson before they make another sign. I would be ashamed to have been seen with a sign that started with the words, “This women .....“ . My grammar is not all that great but at least I know you don’t say, “This women ....“!!!
thanks Brewer, I got to it directly from the link you provided in your first post. Not sure why I missed it. I left some comments there to the effect of how can the CSE talk about Deeds mudslinging when they are carrying McDonnell ads the past month lying (factcheck.org) about Deeds costing VA families $7800/yr in new taxes. Ads don’t get any muddier than that.

I can’t find nor do I remember any endorsements for McDonnell, Cuccinelli and Bolling. Specific link?
So Cuccinelli would “better serve” our state. How? And McDonnell has a plan “On paper” for transportation. But the best part is that his platform is “idea-driven”. Sounds like Gary Hart’s “new ideas”.
And the endorsement for Bolling? Why because he’s of the same party of Mr. “on paper”. Do you know how lame this sounds?
