Culpeper has some remarkable people
Published: September 21, 2007
With great sadness we are closing Swetman's Amish Furniture & Gift's.
Over the last 4 1/2 years we have had the pleasure of meeting many great people we would not have met if we had not opened in Culpeper.
Culpeper customers welcomed us with open arms and helped us establish the store that we have developed over the years.
Many of our customers have become close friends, and we will be keeping in touch with them in the future.
We owe our past and future success to all of our customers. We have learned a lot from them.
Many people have asked why we are closing and what we will be doing in the future.
Competition is good for our type of business, and we lost most of that when Grand Home Furnishing closed at the end of last September. When people are spending money on large-ticket items, they like to comparison shop for them.
Grand Furniture also spent about five times the money on advertising that we did, so our ads worked with theirs to keep more customers shopping in Culpeper for furniture.
Culpeper is also affected by the rise and fall of gas prices. Just the talk of higher gas prices and you can see the difference in traffic on the road in front of our store.
People still need to commute to work from Culpeper, no matter what the price of gas is.
As for our future plans, we will be opening Swetman's Amish Furniture in Charlottesville Oct. 19.
The store location will be on Bus. 29 north in the Riverside center across from Sam's Club & Wal-Mart.
We believe our customers would rather see us move the 40 miles to the Charlettesville area than to go out of business.
We hope our previous Culpeper customers will come look us up in our new location.
Over the last 4 1/2 years we have become involved in several community organizations and plan to stay involved with them as if we still were open in Culpeper.
We consider ourselves lucky to have found the Soap Box Derby, the Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce, The State Theater Foundation and the Third Thursday Concert Series put on by Culpeper Renaissance, Inc. All of these are great organizations.
If you have not been involved with any of these - or with other community organizations - we would like to encourage you to look into any or all of the above. Our experiences with them are some of the most rewarding experiances that we have been involved in.
The people that are involved with these organizations are some of the best we have met anywhere.
These people are both well organized and dedicated.
We would like to thank them for all they have have done for us, Culpeper and the surrounding areas.
