Jenkins has the right qualifications

I wanted to take this opportunity to voice my support for Scott Jenkins for sheriff.
I was responsible for his being hired at the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office in the early 1990s. At that time he was a quiet, yet mature, young man with a strong desire to be a deputy sheriff and to serve the citizens of Culpeper County.
While I retired from the sheriff's office many years ago, I have watched as Scott has become the high-caliber law enforcement officer that he is today.
I have never known Scott to back down from any challenge either professionally or personally. He has a good head on his shoulders and he knows the law. He has always been one to sign up for training. His experience spans every area, from the jail and patrol to investigations and SWAT. His desire to learn and his dedication to the profession have always prevailed.
Scott is devoted to his family, his profession and to Culpeper.
As a candidate in the 1995 sheriff's election, I can assure you that the pressure of an election is intense. Politics brings out the best and the worst in people. Damage control after the election will never completely mend the relation-ships that are harmed. Scott did the right thing when he reported suspected corruption and criminal behavior that was occurring in the sheriff's office.
He showed discretion by not notifying the media when he made the original complaints years ago.
It was not until the information was leaked to the press by the accused that he was forced to defend himself and his actions by making his complaints public. While not always the most popular person, Scott has always maintained his integrity.
I encourage everyone to get to know Scott, his experience, and his vision for the sheriff's office. He has many ideas for maximizing the deputies on the street and saving tax dollars on a new jail.
Policing has changed in the years since I retired. However, the goal of having a safe place to live and raise your family remains the same. Scott shares that goal, as he lives and raises his family here.
Please join my family and me in voting for Scott Jenkins for sheriff on Nov. 6.
