OUR VIEW: Bono’s visit is one that Culpeper will remember

» Culpeper continues to draw celebrities, but this time a superstar stops by Hazel River Inn and goes almost unnoticed
Last week a guy named Paul walked into the Hazel River Inn Restaurant and sat down for a meal. No big deal, unless that guy is Paul David Hewson, better known as Bono.
Following in the footsteps of George Washington, Patrick Henry, Bill Clinton and countless Civil War generals, Bono just couldn’t visit the area without a stop in Culpeper.
Hours before he rocked Scott Stadium in Charlottesville Oct. 1 with his band U2, Bono had a quiet lunch downtown. Unlike Clinton, who came to town last year to campaign for his wife Hillary, Bono wasn’t out shaking hands and causing a scene. Some workers at the restaurant were able to snap a photo with the star, but that’s about the only evidence of his visit.
It’s pretty neat that one of the world’s biggest stars would take the time to visit Culpeper and that he and his small entourage would be so cool and unassuming. But maybe that’s what attracted him to Culpeper.
We’re pretty cool and unassuming too.
