OUR VIEW: Germanna on cutting edge with job fair
Published: June 5, 2009
Germanna Community College recently held a job fair at its Daniel Technology Center.
That, in itself, is not unusual. But what makes this one stand out is the nature of the participants.
The Green Jobs Conference, held May 19, actually was much more than just another job fair. It featured 26 presenters, panelists and speakers praising the virtues of energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture and biofuels.
Nearly 150 people turned out to learn more about green-collar employment opportunities and ways to promote environmentally friendly practices in their daily lives.
The event was a great way for Germanna to go the extra mile in fulfilling its mission to provide quality educational opportunities that meet the needs of the community.
Not only could visitors learn how to be a little more environmentally conscious, they also could apply for jobs with earth-friendly companies.
We’re sure at least a few of the applicants wound up getting interviews afterward.
A few might even be reading this with breakfast in preparation for a day at the new job. Congrats and good luck to them.
To Germanna, we say thanks and keep up the good work.

Workers recently put a fresh coat of paint on the State Theatre, which is undergoing renovations.
Most of the work has been going on inside the building, which has left the exterior looking, well, not so renovated.
The new paint job is a temporary fix that will help to improve the building’s appearance — and just in time for our town’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
We thank the volunteers who’ve helped to make the building less of an eyesore and look forward to when renovations are complete and it will again be a crown jewel of downtown Culpeper.
