» Follow You tour brought fans, revenue to Culpeper; helped spread positive message about helping others

It’s not often a Grammy-nominated artist and a Dove-award winner stop in our town. Unless you count Bono.

But when the Follow You tour stopped in town Nov. 10 it brought with it Grammy-nominated band Leeland and Dove-award winner Brandon Heath along with the very talented Francesca Battistelli.

The concert, sponsored in part by Food for the Hungry, was a way for Christian faithful to raise their voices in a contemporary fashion and an effort to raise money and awareness for hungry children in poor countries.

Nearly 1,200 people packed Culpeper County High School to praise the Lord and to celebrate the cause. Many of those, from accounts of those at the concert, were from out of town. We hope they took the opportunity to visit our storied downtown and hope that the experience brings them back to Culpeper.

We also hope the artists enjoyed their stay in our little town and will consider returning again, we would love to have this become an annual event.

Another worthwhile cause takes place this Saturday as Culpeper’s own Reagan Flemming hosts a birthday party from 2 to 6 p.m. at Floyd T.
Binns Middle School.

Now, this isn’t your normal 13-year-old’s birthday bash. Reagan, suffering from cancer, decided that her party should help others.

Admission is free to the shindig, but there will be many opportunities to purchase fundraising items — such as a “puppy posse” for $10.

In a world that is sometimes self-centered and cold, people need to recognize and emulate this precious 13-year-old. Despite suffering from a dangerous and scary disease, she is focused on making other people feel better and raising awareness of her illness.

We wish her a speedy recovery, the best of luck, and a great birthday party. Be sure to show up!
