OUR VIEW: In football, EVHS returns as county’s team to beat

» With a proven system in place, Eastern View is more likely to rack up the victories this football season than cross-county rival CCHS.
Football season is finally here this week, and in Culpeper that means we get to kick off the year with the biggest game of all. On Friday night, Eastern View will host Culpeper in the second annual Cannonball Classic.
It’s the first of 10 regular season games for both squads, and each year around this time the question on just about everybody’s mind is how good the local teams are going to be. If you pressed us, we’d have to say Eastern View will win more games than Culpeper, if for no other reason than the fact the Cyclones are a year ahead in the process of building a program.
Greg Hatfield enters his second season as the Eastern View coach, and his players are already accustomed to his offensive and defensive schemes. He also returns several starters on both sides of the ball.
At Culpeper, new coach Mike Williams is in the process of installing an option offense and a new defense. The Blue Devils also return several starters from last year, but the experience factor is limited when all the Blue Devils are essentially starting from scratch.
The schedules also play a role in the pick. The Battlefield District will be tough for both teams, but the Cyclones have two non-district games against teams that went 0-10 last year. Culpeper has non-district games against tough teams such as Fauquier and Orange.
Of course, at this point it’s all just an educated guess. Despite gauging some early scrimmages — EVHS was quite impressive while CCHS struggled — we really won’t know how good the teams are until we see them play Friday.
But we’re eager to find out.

Its one of the most controversial news in sporting world. But let me lay to you all about Caster Semenya.Caster Semenya is causing a stir, and people are searching high and low for Caster Semenya photos. Caster Semenya is a track athlete from South Africa, and she has been recently ordered to undergo testing to see if she is actually a woman. Caster is known for exceptional speed, muscle definition and an unusually deep voice for a woman. The universal gender testing has been abandoned by the IOC, and complete gender tests are far more complex than armed forces loans applications. Blood work, invasive probing, the works – it would be less invasive and painful to get auto financing than to conclusively prove Caster Semenya is a female, according to athletic organization standards.
Come on now…. Everybody knows that the Devils will be up for the task and make a game out of it this Friday. New CCHS coach, Mike Williams, has been really working the devils hard in preperation and we won’t see the same results as last year. Besides, it takes a few years to break athletes into a different game plan. My prediction….EVHS 24… CCHS 21.
