» Plenty of headlines in recent weeks have shown cooperation, creativity and the kind of extra effort that makes you proud.
For police, when a suspect is on the run in a different city, it’s difficult to find what can amount to a needle in a haystack. Recently when a man was accused of setting a woman on fire in front of her 12-year-old daughter, then fleeing in the victim’s car, local police scrambled to locate him.
Agencies across the area worked together, and authorities in Washington, D.C., were able to make the arrest. Now, 45-year-old James E. Anderson of Culpeper faces justice.
The communication and sharing of information was impressive, and law enforcement officials are to be congratulated for their hard work.

Teaching children to swim is a time-honored tradition that is not only fun, it saves lives.
The Culpeper County Parks and Recreation Department again offered lessons to area children this summer, showing the ultimate community outreach.
Teaching future generations to safely enjoy the water is indeed an important mission.

Reformation Lutheran Church is known for all sorts of innovative programs that reach into the community, especially with senior citizens, and its adult vacation Bible school is a prime example.
We all know that children get a boost by these kinds of programs, but having adults rejuvenated in the same way is a unique outreach that deserves recognition.
Good job.
