There is no free money to build new infrastructure
Published: October 18, 2007
Once again the media is leading the good folks of Culpeper astray.
There is no such thing as a "VDOT grant" or federal grants to the transportation administration. There is only the money that is taken in as taxes.
Just as there is no free lunch, there is no government pot of gold from which we can draw money for free bridges, sidewalks or yellow brick roads.
We continue to be humbled by the costs of our schools and the ever- expanding infrastructure needs of water, sewer and power.
In the drive to broaden our tax base here in Culpeper, we have lowered the quality of life for all of us and sold out the agriculture community to the developers.
