HOW I SEE IT: Kids benefit greatly from Peppe’s Jr. K
I am responding to last Sunday’s article titled “Bridge of Learning.”

OUR VIEW: Everybody takes a hit during the recession
» It’s a sad fact that charities are often the ones that really struggle during hard times.
It’s a good thing school officials have all these dance regulations
I don’t boogie much. Nor do I shake my tail feathers, groove thing or money maker with any degree of frequency. In that regard, I’m much like students who follow the rules at Union Grove High School in Wisconsin.
U.S. won’t bow to terrorists over ‘free speech’
In case we’re overlooking it, Lebanon’s officials (and almost all Arab media) are attacking the U.S. Congress’s new law that “scrambles” news broadcasts from terrorist networks.

Americans shouldn’t have to pick up Haiti’s medical bills
The American people are tired, tired and broke. They just cannot longer afford the forced charity that is being rammed down their throats; the latest scam is enormous medical bills from the care of Haitians brought to the U.S. for advanced medical care.
Why annexation is the right approach for town of Culpeper
On Jan. 23 I wrote a guest column explaining why giving away the town’s water and wastewater facilities was not a good idea. Compared to talking about annexation, that was like taking a walk in Yowell Meadow Park.

HOW I SEE IT: Obama’s speech: Hypocrisy, deception
President Obama’s state of the union speech was reminiscent of Communist leaders’ speeches talking about freedoms in their country — when the truth was that their whole nation was a giant prison.
OUR VIEW: Three cases capturing the public’s attention
» A dog’s death, a student’s body finally being found and a former sheriff who took his own life

Name new police station ‘Ford-Jamison’
I think the new police station should be named after two of Culpeper’s finest officers: The Culpeper Ford-Jamison Police Department. After all, they are what law enforcement was all about.
Even the consolation prize didn’t work
I am a married man with a house in Culpeper. I have a decent job and am in a good positon to buy a car.
We were due for the big one, but just how big will it be?
How many of you good folks in Culpeper and surrounding areas are sick of snow?
HOW I SEE IT: Bad time to raise taxes, Sen. Houck
I appreciate Sen. Edd Houck’s work on behalf of his district, including his efforts to inform the public of the state’s budget woes. I disagree with Sen. Houck when he says now is the time for a massive tax increase on personal automobiles (“Houck rips governor on state budget plan,” Jan. 30).
OUR VIEW: Del. Scott legislating a loophole for Weaver
» The Madison County sheriff shouldn’t be supervising his wife in the first place.

The U.S. 29 tech corridor: A work in progress for Culpeper’s future
In the beginning, moving to Culpeper was a calculated escape from the Beltway, part of this man’s plan to improve my quality of life and enjoy the fruits of my newly discovered Camelot.
Acts of kindness helped this motorist on her way
I would like to thank two gentlemen who helped me Jan. 31 when my tire pressure needed checking and my tires needed filling.
Furor over Frank’s diary strikes me as a bit ironic
I find it astounding that a high school student is able to see with more clarity than the school division that is supposed to oversee her education.
HOW I SEE IT: Childhood déjà vu over diary drama
The recent discussion and controversy surrounding the full-text version of the Diary of Ann Frank reminded me of the time when John Steinbeck’s popular novel, “The Grapes of Wrath,” was removed off the bookshelves in our local junior high school library in the 1970s in central Minnesota because of one “disturbing” scene at the end.
Thanks to SWIFT, StellarOne, AGR playground on its way
The A.G. Richardson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization would like to thank two local businesses, SWIFT and StellarOne, for their recent donations to our playground fund.

PERSPECTIVE: What can we learn from a little, fickle groundhog?
» Alas, friends and neighbors ... six more weeks of winter weather stand before us.

HOW I SEE IT: A student’s view on Anne Frank’s diary
I am a senior at CCHS and the president of the National Honor Society chapter there, and I am utterly appalled at the school division’s announcement last week that it had “pulled” the full diary of Anne Frank from our public schools.
Three centuries later, tariffs remain a bad economic approach
Men dressed in animal hides and feathers throwing boxes into the water in the middle of the night may have more economic prowess than our policymakers in D.C.
In financial need? Please kick the cigarette habit.
The community should not be required to provide help to those who won’t attempt to help themselves and weather the storm.

I applaud Sen. Houck for his realistic talk on taxes
Thank goodness there is at least one politician with the common sense to recognize that in bad times you don’t cut taxes.
OUR VIEW: From tikes to tiaras, these students earn recognition
» Congrats to area students for a job well done in several fields.
