Jazz night a huge success thanks to these folks ...
I would like to express my gratitude to a number of people who helped the Floyd T. Binns London Ambassadors with their spaghetti dinner/jazz music night Oct. 24.
Love and pray for those who rise up against us, even Major Hasan
Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the 39-year-old Virginia-born psychiatrist who opened fire on his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood, started his holy war preparation in September when he bought a Belgian-made FN Herstal Five-Seven tactical pistol and a .357 Magnum with a laser sight.

Take time this week to thank those who work behind the scenes
As this paper hit your porch, my wife was starting another day of work at an annual conference. And if all goes well this week, no one will ever know she was there.

I have recently become very annoyed with some of the sheriff’s deputies of Culpeper County.
OUR VIEW: Court cases show the system is still working

Reflections on the election
Please allow me to offer hearty congratulations to Del. Ed Scott for his resounding victory in the recent election. It well reflected the outstanding representation he continues to provide for the 30th House District.
How much longer must we put up with columnist Legge?
How preposterous does “editorial columnist” Robert Legge have to be to warrant scrutiny from the Star-Exponent’s “editorial board”? His expose Thursday of the local banking industry (“Overdraft charges have banks turning small misfortunes into gold”) certainly surpasses his “insider” analysis of the National Rifle Association published last spring.
What’s really driving this rise of gas prices at the pump?
Over the years I have written a number of articles that have been critical of the global oil industry and the “Seven Sisters” in particular. I have been especially concerned with what I consider to be their predatory pricing policies.

Of smog, emissions and global warming
What is the government going to be hoodwinked into next?
A better idea for the town to tackle
I have been following the recent articles in the news about the old State Theatre. It would be nice to see this building renovated, but not with tax dollars.
How would lion attacks be handled in today’s office climate?
It was a good day at work. I wasn’t eaten by a lion.

Support the public option
My family supports a real, government-run, single-payer public option. No triggers, no cooperatives. Let’s finally get this thing done right!
Observe Veterans Day at Culpeper National Cemetery
Veterans Day observance has evolved over the years. In recognition of military service members’ sacrifices, let’s take time this year to pay appropriate homage to our veterans who have contributed so much to the preservation of this nation.
My daily struggle with diet and exercise starting to pay off again
As I stepped outside to begin my trek home to Orange, the scent of french fries reached out, as if to hook its magical McFingers under my nostrils. This is the struggle I face every day in my quest to continue losing weight and getting healthy.
HOW I SEE IT: Math doesn’t add up on State Theatre
A short while back I had published in this newspaper my concerns regarding the nonsensical loan being made to the State Theatre Foundation for continued restoration.
OUR VIEW: Don’t let the screams go silent at Nate Jasper’s
» We’re sad to see his Haunted Woods come to an end. But maybe the Halloween tradition can live on in a new incarnation.
