RICHMOND — A Virginia political action committee set up to dog Republican Bob McDonnell has received nearly $850,000 from national Democrats.

Common Sense Virginia got $740,000 on Tuesday from the Democratic Governors Association.

It’s the richest of three donations the association has pumped into Virginia the past six weeks to attack McDonnell, one of three Democrats facing a June 9 primary.

The DGA gave the PAC nearly $110,000 in March.

Common Sense Virginia’s most conspicuous presence is its Web site, TheRealBobMcDonnell.com. It’s a dead ringer for McDonnell’s genuine Web site, and even appears at the top selections from a Google search of McDonnell’s name.

It portrays him as a hard right-winger and features photos of him with religious broadcaster Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh, former President George W. Bush and ousted state GOP chairman Jeff Frederick.
