McDonnell coming to Culpeper County

Republican candidate for governor Bob McDonnell will visit Brandy Station Thursday, touring the Compassion House for veterans at 4:30 p.m.

He is also scheduled to march in the Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department Parade at 6:30. Following the parade, McDonnell will meet and greet residents at the fairgrounds, located at 20057 Fleetwood Heights Road.

A Pennsylvania native, McDonnell, 55, grew up in Fairfax and served in the House of Delegates from 1992 until 2005. That year, he won a slim victory for the attorney general’s seat over Sen. Creigh Deeds of Bath County.

Now, he and Deeds will face off again in November after Deeds defeated two candidates in Virginia’s Democratic primary in June. McDonnell resigned as attorney general earlier this year to campaign full time. Deeds intends to keep his seat in Richmond during the campaign.

Next week’s visit will be the second campaign stop in the Culpeper area this year for McDonnell; he last visited in April.
