Jarvis finishes EMU career with ODAC honor
Former Culepeper County High School baseball star Jameson Jarvis wrapped up his college career at Eastern Mennonite University by making the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s All-Sportsmanship team.
Jarvis finished his three-year stint with the EMU Royals with a .295 career batting average, 18 home runs and 80 RBI. This wasn’t the first time the CCHS alum earned honors from the ODAC. He was a first-team all-conference player and Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State second team player in 2006.
This year, Jarvis started all 40 games for EMU, which finished 10-30 and 6-12 in the ODAC. He was second on the team with 21 runs batted in and tied for the Royals’ team lead in homers with four. The senior third baseman also had a fielding percentage of .888.
The race is on
Virginia Tech sophomore Devin Cornwall, a former track and cross county standout at CCHS, has turned in some solid performances for the Hokies as the college outdoor track season hits the homestretch.
Cornwall entered the 5000-meter run in the ACC Championships April 17-19 and finished 12th in the event with a time of 14:42. The ex-Blue Devil then entered the same race at the prestigious Oregon Twilight meet May 9 in Eugene, Ore.
There, Cornwall shaved nearly 17 seconds off his time, finishing fourth in 14:25.13. He was the top finisher among runners competing for their university and was less than 14 seconds off the qualifying mark for NCAA Division I regional meets.
In between his runs in the 5000-meter, Cornwall tried his hand at the 1500 at the Liberty Twilight meet in Lynchburg on May 1, winning the race in 3:54.17.
