Culpeper native Worth Richardson is having quite a debut season as the head men's tennis coach at Christopher Newport University.

Richardson, a star player in his days at Culpeper County High School, is one of the youngest coaches in the country and has guided the Captains to their highest-ever national ranking.
CNU reached No. 20 in the NCAA Division III poll last week and followed it up with a 9-0 victory against Chowan Thursday afternoon.

After graduating from CCHS in 2002, Richardson went on to play tennis at CNU and was briefly the head coach at Virginia Wesleyan before getting into economics. He returned to coaching this season, taking over a Captains team led by his former high school rival, Fauquier-product Eddie Glidewell.
CNU is 3-1 this season with victories against New York University and No. 18 Washington and Lee. The Captains' lone loss came to Division I foe Old Dominion.

Running man
Devin Cornwall, a former track and cross country standout at CCHS, competed at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Cornwall, a sophomore at Virginia Tech, ran the 5000-meter event in 14:38.39, good enough for fifth place. It was the Hokies' best 5,000-meter performance of the season.

On her horse
Former Culpeper County High School track star Kamerra Brown chose to pursue a different sport in college, joining the equestrian team at Delaware State. The sophomore rider was the Hornets leading scorer in fences last Saturday against South Carolina.

Brown scored an 80 in fences, finishing just behind the Gamecocks' Kristin Terebesi. South Carolina won the event by a score of 12-6. Delaware State competes again April 16-17 at the NCAA Varsity Equestrian Tournament in Waco, Texas.

McDonnell wraps up season
The Virginia Cavaliers recently swam at the NCAA Regionals, meaning the end of the season for Boston, Va., native Katherine McDonnell.

McDonnell finished the season with U.Va.'s second-best times in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.61) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.26). The sophomore was also the second leg on the Cavs' top 200-yard medley relay team, helping the team reach a time of 1:42.11.
