Culpeper American defeats National

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Culpeper American team met Culpeper National in the first game of the District 14 9-10 all-star baseball tournament Saturday at McIntire Park and came away with a 12-2 victory.

Coleby Roman got the start and the win for American, pitching three innings, striking out eight and giving up two hits. Nate Smith pitched one inning of scoreless relief.

The American team racked up 11 hits in the win, led by Kevin Devine who went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Cody Howard who finished 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Ray Tricarico also brought some runs home for American, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Justin Pollard went 1-for-1 with two runs scored, Brady Drew went 1-for-1 with a run scored, Smith finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and Ronnie Murphy crossed home plate three times.

D’Ago Hunter recorded two of the National team’s three hits, with Brett Shurina (the starting pitcher) getting the third.
