Madison County High School is moving up the ranks.

The Mountaineers are ranked No. 7 in Group A in this week’s Virginia Prep Football Poll conducted by The Associated Press. Madison County, which improved to 6-0 with a 48-7 victory against visiting Stonewall Jackson-Quicksburg on Friday, moved up two spots after debuting at No. 9 in the first poll of the season last week.

The Mountaineers received 32 points from voters this week after getting 20 last week. Madison did receive one first-place vote last week.

Madison’s Bull Run District rival Clarke County also moved up in this week’s poll. The Eagles were ranked No. 2, up one spot from the previous poll, and received three first-place votes.

In Group AA, defending Division 3 state champion James Monroe received votes, but was not ranked in the Top 10 for the second week in a row.
