MONTICELLO — The 9-10 Louisa Little League All-Stars baseball team lost its first game of the tournament to Culpeper American Thursday, but got back to its winning ways Friday by connecting on four home runs and beating Culpeper 7-4 to advance to the state tournament.

Adam Szalankiecewiz sent a two-run homer over the fence in the fifth inning to give Louisa a 6-1 lead. Also sending one out of the park in the fifth was starting pitcher Jacob Talley; it was his second of the day.

Talley connected on a two-run home run in the first inning and pitched 4 1/3 innings before being relieved by Alex Hurley, who finished the game 2-for-2 with a homer of his own.

Getting the start on the mound for Culpeper was Coleby Roman, who went four innings, striking out four and giving up two runs. Nate Smith replaced him and pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs.

Rightfielder Kevin Devine led Culpeper from the plate going 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while centerfielder Ronnie Murphy went 1-for-3 with an RBI, catcher Ray Tricarico finished 1-for-2 with a single and leftfielder Cody Howard finished 1-for-1 with a single.
