Osbourn running game powers past CCHS
Osbourn running game powers past CCHS

Culpeper must quickly find a way to get things turned around. During Friday night’s 61-14 loss to Osbourn in the Cedar Run District opener for both teams, the Blue Devils had little success on offense until the outcome was decided.

Chancellor tops Orange

Going into Friday night, Orange County football coach John Kayajanian knew that picking up a win against visiting Chancellor was going to be a daunting task.
The Hornets were up to the task in the first half, but were unable to stop the Chargers rushing attack in the second half as Chancellor picked up a 21-7 win.

Maybe there’s something about jersey No. 4. A week ago, when Culpeper and Orange County faced off in the season opener, both head coaches knew that the outcome of the game would be decided, in large part, by Orange County quarterback Quintin Hunter, who wears that number.

New chapter in old Battlefield rivalry
New chapter in old Battlefield rivalry

The last time Culpeper and Orange met on the football field as bitter rivals most of the players on both school’s current rosters were in elementary school, but Friday’s hard-fought affair rehashed memories of Battlefield District border wars from decades ago.

Madison pounds William Monroe

Madison County football coach Stuart Dean knows that the reward for beating William Monroe is a full year of bragging rights.

Commentary: Lack of focus could haunt Hornets

Quintin Hunter, the stellar Orange quarterback, had scored twice and led the Hornets on a third touchdown drive less than seven minutes into the game. On the way to a 40-0 drubbing of the Blue Devils the Hornets looked like a team capable of making a playoff run. But in a sloppy second quarter they also showed why they need to remain focused if they are going to compete for a state championship or even win the Jefferson District.

Orange Crush
Orange Crush

At the 5:41 mark of the first quarter Orange had only run five plays, but the Hornets were already on top of Culpeper 21-0. An explosive offense that swallowed yards in chunks led OCHS to a 40-0 rout over the Blue Devils in their first game of the season.

Speed kills

On the football field, speed can go a long way toward deciding the outcome of a game. Eastern View made that apparent during Friday’s lopsided victory over Culpeper, when the Cyclones racked 10 plays that went for 20 yards or more.
